The Zeta Omicron Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma began as the Little Sisters of the Eta Beta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi in the Spring of 1977. They eventually broke away to form a Tau Beta Sigma Colony and the Chapter was finally installed on April 7, 1979 as the 159th Chapter in the nation by the Beta Eta Chapter from the University of Maryland.
Now, the Sisters of the Zeta Omicron Chapter work to promote the bands here at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Some of the projects we organize throughout the year include: band camp in August, Band Parents' Day, clean-up on our Adopt-a-Highway road, Hokies for the Hungry, ushering at many of the concerts and events held by the music department, and doing a car wash for the Virginia Tech Police Department (just to name a few).
A large majority of our Sisters hold leadership positions in the Marching Virginians in the Fall semester, and many of them continue their study of music in the Spring by playing in the University Symphony Band, University Symphonic Wind Ensemble, or any one of the many small ensembles in our music department.
Our Sisters are always busy working our own projects or cooperating with other organizations. We're never afraid to take on a new challenge, and pride ourselves on having a very diverse group of women!
