The History of the Zeta Omicron Chapter

The Zeta Omicron Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma began as the little Sisters of the Eta Beta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. The little Sisters established a close working with the brothers, and helped with most of their service projects. Even though the women were required to know almost as much information as the brothers, they did not have voting privileges in fraternity decision making. Therefore, in May, 1978, the little Sisters petitioned the National Office of Tau Beta Sigma and were granted colony status. The Zeta Omicron Chapter of VPI&SU was installed on April 7, 1979, by the Beta Eta Chapter from the University of Maryland.

Later in April 28 of 1979, the Alpha pledge class of Zeta Omicron was initiated. This class consisted of: Sherri Clifford Epley, Jennifer Courtney Allen, and Lynette Mergler. The Beta pledge class consisting of Carol Hagler Shields and Bonnie MacCubbin White, was initiated in June 2 of 1979. In the spring of 1998 Zeta Omicron was given the honor of overseeing and advising the newest colony of Tau Beta Sigma at Winston-Salem State University. On March 28, 1999, the WSSU colony of Tau Beta Sigma was installed by Zeta Omicron making them Theta Upsilon, the 212th chapter of Tau Beta Sigma.
