The Department of Music at Virginia Tech is pleased to announce the Virginia Tech String Project sponsored by the National String Project Consortium, NAMM the International Music Products Association, New River Valley Friends of The Roanoke Symphony, Corning Incorporated, and The Department of Music. The purpose of the project is to provide affordable quality string instruction to public and private school students while training future string music educators.
Beginning string classes for third and fourth grade students will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:45 and 5:45 p.m. in Squires 162 in the Department of Music beginning September 4th, 2007. Lesson fees are $50 for Fall Semester with affordable instrumental rental programs available. Financial aid in the form of scholarships will be offered to qualifying students.
The Virginia Tech String Project is modeled after several successful projects formerly sponsored by the American String Teachers Association and the National School Orchestra Association. These projects on campuses such as the Universities of Texas, Arizona, and South Carolina have developed highly successful string and orchestra programs, provided affordable string music lessons to public school students, and increased the number of string educators in their respective regions.
