NEW RIVER JAZZ CELEBRATION - Friday & Saturday, March 30 ? 31, 2007
Middle School, High School and College/University jazz ensembles are invited to participate in the 1st Annual New River Jazz Celebration at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, on Friday and Saturday, March 30 ? 31, 2007. This brand new educational jazz festival promises outstanding clinics and performances from some of today?s finest jazz professionals in addition to feedback and commentary from an outstanding panel of judges. The primary goal of the NRJC is one of jazz education, and we think you?ll find our festival to be a rewarding experience for both students and directors.General ensemble entry fees are $200 per group, which includes admission to all daytime events:
- 25 minute warm-up time
- 25 minute performance slot
- 25 minute post-performance clinic
- Masterclasses throughout the day Fri and Sat (jazz styles, improvisation, articulation, rhythm section, etc.)
- Taped and written comments from our excellent panel of judges
- CD recording of your ensemble?s performance
- Individual soloist awards and scholarships
- Sweepstakes Award for outstanding performance by a group (as determined by the judges)
- Free concert by the Refuge Trio and the Virginia Tech Jazz Ensemble with Special Guests on Saturday @ 1:00 pm
Each ensemble director will also receive two free tickets to the Friday evening concert featuring world-renowned drummer and composer John Hollenbeck?s REFUGE TRIO with Gary Versace, organ (John Scofield, Maria Schneider) and Theo Bleckmann, voice (Bobby McFerrin, Dave Douglas). Additional tickets for your students may be purchased for $5 each in advance (special rate for participating ensembles), or $10 each at the door.
Our adjudicators this year represent the very best in jazz education and are coming to Blacksburg this year from all over the country. We?re honored to have as our guest judges:
