Department of Music Announces 2006-07 Chamber Music Season

Chamber Orchestra of Southwest Virginia
Saturday, September 9 at 8 p.m. & September 10 at 3 p.m.

The 2006-2007 University Chamber Music season opens with the Chamber Orchestra of Southwest Virginia performing Shostakovich?s First Piano Concerto, Mozart?s Linz Symphony and Heinichen?s Concerto in F. James Glazebrook, conductor, Tracy Cowden, piano.

Virginia Tech welcomes the acclaimed contemporary music ensemble, eighth blackbird, to Blacksburg. The group is widely lauded for its performing style ? often playing from memory with virtuosic and theatrical flair ? and its efforts to make new music accessible to wide audiences. The New Yorker calls eighth blackbird, ?friendly, unpretentious, idealistic and highly skilled.? A unique musical experience for all ages, eighth blackbird is not to be missed.

Duo Pianists Mary Louise Hallauer and Teresa Ehrlich

Pianists Mary Louis Hallauer and Teresa Ehrlich return to perform a program of music for two pianos. Johannes Brahm?s powerful Sonata in F Minor, Opus 34b will be featured.

Founded in 1978, this remarkable Dutch vocal ensemble appears for the first time at Virginia Tech. Quink presents a varied repertoire, performing a cappella music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century.

The Kandinsky Trio
Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. & Monday, March 26, 2007, at 8 p.m.

The acclaimed Kandinsky Trio returns in a program featuring Messiaen?s masterpiece, Quartet for the End of Time. Daniel McKelway, Associate Principal Clarinet with the Cleveland Orchestra, joins the Kandinsky Trio for these performances.

Chamber Music Master Works
Saturday, April 14 at 8 p.m. & Sunday, April 15, 2007, at 3 p.m.

Join faculty artists from Virginia Tech?s Department of Music as they perform master works for mixed chamber ensembles.
