The Virginia Tech Invitational Concert Band Festival - February 21-22, 2007

High school concert bands from around the Commonwealth are eligible to participate in the inaugural Virginia Tech Invitational Concert Band Festival, held Wednesday and Thursday, February 21-22, 2007, in Burruss Auditorium.? The goal of this event is for participating students and directors to gain new insights into their ensemble performing through clinician feedback and from listening to other groups as they perform and receive follow up clinics.? There will be no ratings, rankings, or ?best in class? citations awarded.

Each attending band will participate one of the days of the Festival.? Groups are expected to invest a minimum of three hours at the event?allowing students to observe at least two or three other bands aside from their own on stage.? On-campus lunch and/or dinner options can be arranged a short walk from the Festival site.??

Each band will have the Burruss stage for 50 minutes, which includes warm-up time, presentation time for two or three selections, and interaction time with clinicians.? Taped comments will be given during the performance time.? Clinicians will work directly with the ensemble during the remainder of their stage time.? All participating bands will receive professional audio recordings and a videotape, and the clinicians? taped comments.??

As part of the Festival, there will be an open rehearsal of the University Symphonic Wind Ensemble on Wednesday afternoon (2:30 p.m.) and an open rehearsal of the University Jazz Ensemble on Thursday afternoon (12:30 p.m.), for all to enjoy.? Participants are also eligible for complimentary tickets to the Wednesday evening (February 21st,? 8:00 p.m.) joint concert by the University Symphony Band and University Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

The cost for each band?s participation is $200.? The first TWELVE bands to send a $100 deposit will be assured a time slot for this premiere Concert Band Festival . Day and time preferences of should be indicated on the attached application form.? Schools will be accommodated on a ?first paid, first served? basis.? ??Return the application form along with the deposit to register your group(s).? Once the application is confirmed, the deposit will serve as a non-refundable guarantee for the requested performance date/time(s).? Applications will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.? If any performance slots are available after October 15th, the invitation will extend then to middle school & junior high bands as well.
