Second Annual Bach Festival Concert to be Held

Blacksburg native Ian Howell, formerly of the internationally renowned men?s choral ensemble Chanticleer, will perform in the second annual Bach Festival Concert, to be held on Sunday, January 29, 2006, at 2 p.m. in Blacksburg?s Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be taken during the concert.

The Bach Festival Orchestra and Chorus will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, including Cantatas Nos. 153 and 156 for orchestra and chorus; Sonata in C Major for Solo Violin; works for organ including the Sinfonia to Cantata 29 "We Thank Thee Lord God"; Prelude on the Chorale "Schmuche dich, O leibe seele," BWV 654; and the Toccata "Dorian" BWV 538.

The orchestra consists of members of the Audubon String Quartet, the Roanoke Symphony, and the Virginia Tech Department of Music, while the festival chorus is made up of Blacksburg community members. The Bach Festival Orchestra and Chorus are under the direction of Brian Gendron, Virginia Tech?s Director of Choral Ensembles.
