"A Winter Welcome" Concert Kicks Off Ninth Annual Virginia Tech Honor Band

The University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and University Chamber Singers welcome over 500 middle school and high school Honor Band musicians to campus on Friday, January 20th with a 7:30 p.m. concert in Burruss Auditorium. The performance will include encore presentations of works performed by each group at the 2005 Virginia Music Educators Association Conference. Jack Gallagher?s A Psalm of Life (Fantasy on Tschesnokoff?s Salvation is Created) and Grainger?s I?m Seventeen Come Sunday are centerpieces in the program. Additionally, several new works to this year?s wind ensemble repertoire will be presented, including Bruckner?s Ave Maria and Holst?s First Suite in Eb led by student conductors, as well as a new work by Robert Spittal titled Pacem: A Hymn for Peace. The Wind Ensemble and the Chamber Singers will join together for Charles Ives? lively and eccentric march, The Circus Band. Pre-concert entertainment in the Burruss lobby will be the University Horn Choir and a student saxophone quartet. Tickets are available at the door only; $5 general admission, $3 students and seniors. All profits will be donated for the Hokies United Hurricane relief efforts.
