A slang term for bar rooms in the late 19th and early 20th centuries which also became synonymous with a style of jazzpianoperformance from the 1920s through the early 1940s. The barrelhousemusic was similar to boogie-woogie and was characterized by a loud, raucous sound with a fast tempo.
