Jennifer Quackenbush: oboe
Jenny Quakenbush is currently in her fourth year as the oboe instructor at Virginia Tech. She is an adjunct faculty member and resides in Lynchburg, Virginia.
A native of Blacksburg, Mrs. Quakenbush received her early musical training from her father, David Widder. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied oboe with David Serrins and Melanie Wilsden. Mrs. Quakenbush has performed with orchestras and chamber groups in Virginia and in Switzerland, including the Musikgesellschaft Neukirch-Egnach and the Jugendorchester St. Gallen. Previously, she served as principal oboist of the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra and English hornist in the Kingsport Symphony Orchestra, both in Tennessee. She currently serves as principal oboist with the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra. She is an active freelance musician, and has performed on oboe and English horn with groups such as the New River Chamber Players, the Opera Roanoke, and in many churches and community events throughout Central and Western Virginia. Mrs. Quakenbush also maintains a private oboe studio in Lynchburg.
Prior to her service at Virginia Tech, Mrs. Quakenbush was band director at Virginia Middle School in Bristol, Virginia, and at Linkhorne Middle School in Lynchburg.
