Men's Chorus
The Men’s Chorus is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students from both the music department and other degree programs. Their 2008-2009 Season included a combined University Choirs performance of Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms.
This year their repertoire will include barbershop harmonies, international folk songs, American 20th century music, Renaissance liturgical music, and African-American spirituals. They will also combine with the entire choral department for a spring concert of choral masterworks with organ.
- Number of performers: there are never too many—bring your friends!
- Rehearsal Times: Tuesday/Thursday, 3:35-5:15
- Location: Squires Recital Salon
Auditions for all students take place during the first week of the fall semester. Sign up for a time at Squires 242U during the week before school starts or during the first days of classes.
The Audition Process:
- Demonstrate your range by singing various vocal exercises (similar to warm-up exercises in most choirs)
- Sight-sing a given musical example
- Repeat short tonal memory patterns after hearing them on the piano
- Sing one verse of “My Country ‘tis of Thee” (a cappella)
You are not required to bring a prepared solo unless you are interested in being considered for Chamber Singers.
If you have any questions or concerns about the audition process, please contact Dr. Bigler at dbigler@vt.edu.
