Chamber Singers in Italy

Conducted by Dr. Dwight Bigler, the Chamber Singers is a select mixed ensemble that performs literature spanning the Renaissance to the 21st century. This ensemble has been featured at conventions of the Virginia Music Teachers Association, Virginia Music Educators Association, and American Choral Directors Association. They recently performed at the Vatican and St. Mark's Basilica in Venice as part of their 2012 Italy tour. They have also performed in the Washington National Cathedral, Carnegie Hall, and Brooklyn Academy of Musics' Howard Gilman Opera House. Recent projects include collaborations with Opera Roanoke and the New River Valley Symphony Orchestra, including performances in Mozart's Requiem, Verdi's Otello, and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.

Auditions

Chamber Singers student in front of posted program If you are interested in being considered for Chamber Singers, you must:

  1. audition by the first Wednesday of fall semester
  2. bring a prepared solo to your audition (classical art song, folk song, hymn, or Broadway ballad that shows classical-style singing)
  3. pass the standard audition (see audition requirements for VT Women's Chorus and Tech Men)

The Chamber Singers call-back list will be posted on Wednesday afternoon. Call-back auditions will be held during Wednesday's regular rehearsal time.

Chamber Singers performing in the Squires Recital Salon If you would like more information about the audition process or the choirs in general before you sign up, please join us at the Choir Interest Meeting in Squires Recital Salon from 8:00-9:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of fall semester classes. All those interested in joining a choir should attend. All Virginia Tech returning choir members will be there to welcome the new singers and answer any questions you may have. This is also an opportunity to hear (and sing) exactly what will be required in your audition. We will then learn a short excerpt from one of the pieces to be featured on the Fall Choir Showcase. With nearly 150 singers attending, it will certainly be an exciting kick-off to the choral year! We will finish with a question/answer period and have sign-up sheets for you to find a time for your individual audition. If you have any questions or concerns about the audition process, please contact Dr. Bigler at dbigler@vt.edu.
