Visiting Artist Series: Cecilia Kang, clarinet - 7:30 pm, Tuesday, February 25, 2014 - Squires Recital Salon [map]

The Visiting Artist Series of the School of Performing Arts Music | Theatre | Cinema presents Cecilia Kang, clarinet and Geraldine Ong, piano.  Their performance will include works by Schumann, Beethoven, and Debussy. This concert is free of charge.

Clarinetist Cecilia Kang joined the music faculty at North Dakota State University as Assistant Professor of Clarinet in 2012. During the summers, she serves as the clarinet artist-faculty at Grumo Music Festival in Italy and at Luzerne Music Center in New York.  First Prize National Winner of the Canadian Music Competition and Second Prize Winner of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Standard Life Competition, Cecilia Kang has been awarded numerous grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects, the Kingsway Foundation, the University of Michigan’s Rackham Graduate School and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington, DC. Early this year, she has also received the FORWARD Mentorship Grant and the Hendrickson Award from North Dakota State University.

Cecilia Kang earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto. Her main teachers have included Daniel Gilbert, Yehuda Gilad, Joaquin Valdepenas, Joseph Orlowski, Avrahm Galper and Zeng-Ming Liao. She has also participated in master classes and private studies with many world renowned clarinetists including Martin Frost, Karl Leister, Walter Seyfarth, Alexander Bader, Herman Stefansson, Hans Christian Braein, Harri Maki, Eduard Brunner, Frank Cohen, Ted Oien, Mark Nuccio, Bob Crowley, Ricardo Morales, Fan Lei and James Campbell among many others. She is a Rico Performing Artist.
